Are all moisturisers the same?
If you look at this breakdown you will see that the similarities have to do with what a moisturiser does and the differences have to do with how it feels or looks.
Most people buy a moisturiser for what it does - which is moisturise. When I say that all brands of moisturiser are the same, what I mean is they all moisturise to one degree or another (hydrate by reducing transepidermal water loss). Some more/some less but that level of moisturisation is a direct consequence of the consistency of the product.
A greasier moisturiser improves skin hydration more than a less greasy lotion or cream. And a non-water based ointment will have less or no preservatives in it making it less likely to irritate skin, especially when the skin is inflamed or irritated due to a skin disease or product use.
Which brand of moisturiser should you use? 🤔
Whichever you like and can afford because in the end they all do the same thing - with something more watery and less greasy you will find you need to reapply more often to get more hydration than if you used a more greasy ointment. But all these products produce the same end result.
It’s like cars: all brands/makes/models of cars get you from a to b. Does it matter whether it’s a Ferrari or a Ford Fiesta? No, it doesn’t. My job is to give you the directions for how to get from a to b and help You decide whether driving Is right for you. If you do intend to drive, I’m not hugely bothered by which brand of car you choose as long as it has 4 wheels, an engine, a steering wheel, and brakes. I may point you towards one type of engine, for example, over another but in the end, it’s about you choosing the car that you like, will be happy to use and can afford.
The same goes for cleansers. They all cleanse to one degree or another. Is there a difference between one brand of foaming cleanser vs another? Not in what it actually does, which is cleanse the skin.
