What Sunscreen Should I Get?

If you are going to invest in sunscreen, it doesn’t really matter which one you use:

Mineral, chemical, expensive, cheap, fragranced, cream, lotion, gel, powder, with or without antioxidants or vitamin C or whatever 'extra' ingredient you fancy

Go with the one you like the texture or feel of; you don't need to be worried about the ability of the actual sunscreen to protect from the sun because there are lots of rules and regulations in place to ensure that the stated SPF and UVA rating on the bottle is an accurate reflection of product performance.

What's my personal preference? I don't wear a lot of sunscreen but when I do I like it to be a fairly chalky-feeling mineral sunscreen with a whitish hue to it (I don't mind looking a bit silly) so I can see where I have applied it and when it comes off.

The most important thing about sunscreen isn't which one you choose but that you use it correctly and, more importantly, put your energy into sun avoidance and physical protection.

When it comes to protecting yourself from the sun – this is what you should do in order of importance:

• Avoid it
• Cover up
• Use sunscreen correctly
